9th January 2025 – (Bangkok) The recent rescue of mainland Chinese actor Wang Xing from a human trafficking scheme has sparked grave concerns as more individuals are reported missing after being lured to Thailand under similar pretences. Wang’s experience, which involved being tricked into travelling to Thailand for a film shoot only to be sold into a scam operation in Myanmar, has drawn major media attention and raised alarms about the safety of entertainers in the region.

Reports indicate that several artists have vanished after being deceived into accepting roles in a film production in Thailand, with allegations emerging that they were also connected to a person named “Yan Shiliu.” Among those affected is actor He Junhao, who went missing last Friday (3rd January) after travelling to Thailand for a shoot. Friends who reached out to him received vague responses, and the selfie he sent to prove his safety was evidently taken earlier. Concerned acquaintances note that He, a former soldier, should have been more vigilant, yet there is mounting anxiety that he may become the next victim in this troubling narrative.

On Thursday, 9th January, local media reported that in addition to He, the family of 25-year-old model Yang Zeqi sought help via social media after he disappeared near the Thailand-Myanmar border on 20th December. Yang’s family has filed a police report, with local authorities in Baoding, Hebei province, initiating an investigation. His cousin revealed that Yang had seen a casting call in a WeChat group on 8th December and, after a video audition, flew from Beijing to Bangkok on 20th December. Once in Thailand, he was picked up by the film crew but later sent a desperate message to a friend the following day. After a brief video call with his mother on 29th December, during which she noticed bruising around his eyes, he subsequently lost contact again.

Furthermore, Ms. Jia from Xuchang, Henan province, reported that her 21-year-old son, who worked as a lighting technician in Zhejiang’s Hengdian World Studios, has also gone missing after being recruited for a shoot in Thailand. This case mirrors Wang Xing’s situation, involving the same individual, Yan Shiliu, who facilitated their connection to the film crew. On 25th December, Ms. Jia received a distressing WeChat call from her son, who urged her not to inquire about his whereabouts, revealing he was working 12 to 14 hours a day, after which he broke down in tears. Alarmed, Ms. Jia reported the incident to the local police in Dongyang, who confirmed that they are actively investigating the matter.

Social media users have since uncovered details about Yan Shiliu, whose real name is believed to be Yan Moulei. He reportedly arrived in Hengdian in 2015, initially working as an extra before transitioning to a martial arts instructor and participating in film productions. However, he later allegedly became involved in fraudulent activities abroad. Current reports suggest that Yan is no longer in the country, leaving his whereabouts unknown.
