16th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Police have arrested at least five officers from the New Territories North Regional Police Headquarters following an investigation into alleged illegal activities connected to a recent drug case. Reports suggest that these officers, who are part of the anti-triad unit, may have had close ties with organised crime figures.

The police announced that personnel from the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau arrested 12 local individuals today (16th), including seven male police officers, on suspicion of money laundering. The group is alleged to have used 22 bank accounts to launder approximately HK$10.5 million in suspected illicit proceeds from criminal activities between 2017 and 2024. Additionally, two of the police officers were arrested for allegedly renting out their mortgaged residences from 2019 to 2024, suspected of committing fraud.
