5th January 2025 – (Shanghai) Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has recently fallen ill, prompting her to take a break from work for recovery. In a lengthy post on New Year’s Day, she responded to public speculation regarding the severity of her illness and the unfair treatment she has allegedly faced. Zhao revealed that she has been diagnosed with depression and has experienced somatisation symptoms in 2024. She emphasised the importance of understanding and addressing emotional health issues.
Zhao also mentioned past instances of violence and the spread of unfounded rumours, igniting discussions online about the identity of her alleged abuser. Initially, speculation pointed towards Li Wei, the founder of her management company, Galaxy Cool Entertainment Culture Media Co., and her former manager, Xu Yiruo. Both individuals have publicly denied any involvement in abuse. However, prominent paparazzo Wang Dafa provided further insights during a live stream, suggesting an alternative narrative.
Wang Dafa claimed that while Zhao had indeed been harmed, it was not by her former manager. He disclosed that at a recent gathering, he heard reports of Zhao feeling overwhelmed by depression and anxiety, leading her to self-inflict harm. Wang, drawing on his own experiences, expressed that this account aligns with Zhao’s current mental state.
Additionally, reports indicate that Zhao is unable to fulfil her contractual obligations due to her health condition, which has been validated by a top-tier hospital. While she meets the criteria for contract termination, she is reluctant to do so, fearing it may equate to a self-imposed exile from the industry unless she pays a penalty for breach of contract.
