15th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A rare traffic incident unfolded on the West Kowloon Highway today, when a metal tailgate from a truck detached and obstructed the roadway. Starting at around 5.19pm, the police received multiple reports from drivers heading towards the Western Harbour Crossing, near the vicinity of Olympian City.
Witnesses indicated that unsuspecting motorists drove over the fallen tailgate, resulting in significant tyre damage to more than 20 vehicles, which subsequently pulled over to the roadside to await assistance. Footage circulating online shows a long queue of cars lined up on the shoulder, with drivers standing outside their vehicles as traffic officers and tow trucks arrived at the scene.
The truck driver later returned to the site, acknowledging that the tailgate had inadvertently fallen from his vehicle. Photographic evidence revealed the large metal panel lying in the middle of the road, with no injuries reported from the incident.
Social media users commented on the unfortunate event, suggesting that the number of affected vehicles exceeded 20. Some drivers experienced punctures rather than immediate blowouts, leading to further complications as they halted before the tunnel entrance. In a lighter vein, some netizens remarked that the incident had inadvertently stimulated local garage services.
