16th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A recent incident has emerged in Hong Kong involving a woman who claims to have been harassed by a food delivery rider. The woman recounted her experience online, detailing how she ordered food for her boyfriend, only to receive an unsolicited phone call from the same delivery driver shortly after the order was completed. During the call, the rider suggested they “go out and chill” nearby.
Upon receiving the call, the woman activated the speakerphone feature on her phone, allowing her boyfriend to hear the unsolicited invitation. He promptly dialled the rider back to confront him. The rider explained that he was feeling lost in his personal life, but the woman found this explanation inadequate, feeling uncomfortable that her personal information had been misused.
The woman expressed her concerns about the implications of the rider having her phone number and address, stating that it was unacceptable for him to use his position to make inappropriate advances. She ultimately reported the matter to the police and lodged a complaint with the food delivery platform.
Social media users were quick to respond, condemning the rider’s behaviour and suggesting that this was not an isolated incident. Many noted that such actions could indicate a pattern of predatory behaviour. Some users even encouraged the woman to take further action, suggesting her boyfriend should gather friends to confront the driver directly.
