8th January 2025 – (Beijing) Renowned biomathematician Hu Yijuan has made her return to China, joining the esteemed Peking University—her alma mater—after nearly 20 years in the United States. In July, Hu commenced a full-time role at the Beijing International Centre for Mathematical Research within the university, following her tenure at Emory University School of Public Health, where she served as a professor of biostatistics.

According to a biography shared online by Tsinghua University, where she delivered a guest lecture in November, Hu graduated from Peking University in 2005 before obtaining her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She joined Emory University in 2011.

A blog that focuses on academic news in China reported on Monday that Hu, who is also affiliated with the university’s biostatistics department, made her move back to China last year. This claim appears to be corroborated by other reports online.

It remains unclear when Hu departed from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The institution gained notoriety in 2019 for abruptly dismissing two neuroscientists due to alleged undisclosed ties to China, which the scientists vehemently denied.
