8th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Cathay Pacific is thrilled to announce the expansion of its global network with the introduction of direct flights connecting Hong Kong and Rome, set to begin on 5th June 2025. This new route will operate as a three-times-weekly summer seasonal service and marks Cathay Pacific’s second direct link between its home base and Italy, complementing its existing five weekly return flights to Milan, which will increase to daily services this summer.

Travellers to Rome will have the opportunity to explore one of Europe’s most remarkable historical and cultural destinations, renowned for its vast array of monuments, landmarks, museums, and churches. The timing of Cathay Pacific’s return to the Italian capital is particularly fortuitous, as it coincides with the Catholic Church’s celebrations for the 2025 Jubilee Year. This significant event, occurring once every 25 years, will feature a variety of festivities and events throughout Vatican City and Rome.

Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer of Cathay Pacific, stated, “Our relationship with Italy spans nearly 40 years, dating back to our inaugural direct flights between Hong Kong and Rome in 1986. We recognise that our customers have been eagerly awaiting the return of this route, and we are delighted to reconnect with Italy’s splendid capital this summer. Whether for business, leisure, or the 2025 Jubilee festivities, we look forward to welcoming passengers aboard our flights to experience our world-class service.”

The Rome service will be operated using Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft, offering passengers fully flat beds in Business Class, spacious seating in Premium Economy, and comfortable accommodations in Economy Class. The flight schedule is as follows (all times local, subject to change and regulatory approval):
