15th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) The TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital has reported a concerning update regarding a cluster of influenza A and Covid-19 cases. As of today, eight additional male patients from the same ward have tested positive for the viruses following medical surveillance. Among these, six patients, aged between 42 and 70, have been confirmed to be infected with influenza A, while one patient, aged 58, has tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, an 85-year-old patient has been diagnosed with both viruses. Fortunately, all affected individuals are currently in isolation and are reported to be in stable condition.
The hospital has also confirmed the passing of a 60-year-old male patient today, attributed to underlying health issues rather than the viral infections.
In response to this outbreak, the hospital has implemented rigorous infection control measures within the affected ward. These measures include thorough cleaning and disinfection of the area, enhanced screening procedures for both patients and the environment, and strict adherence to droplet and contact precautions, alongside improved hand hygiene practices for staff and patients alike.
The hospital remains vigilant, continuing to monitor the situation closely and maintaining its enhanced infection control protocols. It has duly reported the circumstances to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up actions.
